Dreaming About Someday

Sleep begets sleep. But how do you get babies to sleep in the first place?!? Rhys is ahead on milestones, yes, but he is lagging with sleep. While all his cohorts (my friends' babies who were born within a month of him) are all sleeping 8 hours straight at night and good, solid naps, Rhys is taking maybe a 45 minute nap (and fights our babysitter at nap time) and wakes up every 3-4 hours still at night (he doesn't need to eat, except for a dream feed between 10:30-11pm). I'm so jealous. I know, I know. Like Bonnie says, "my experiences aren't your experiences" and vice versa, and I know I shouldn't compare my baby to other babies, but I'm at the point (because I work in the middle of the day and there really isn't time for me to take a nap) that I would trade in Rhys's ability to scoot across the floor and rolling over one way for good, solid naps and sleeping through the night. Sigh.
How do you get your babies to nap well and sleep well at night?
If your babies are at a babysitters or daycare, how do they do the same?

But, that is one of the joys of motherhood, which only comes when you are an adult. Speaking of adults, I want to introduce you to my friend Aubrey. She is a wonderful girl who works with special education children, runs marathons (ask her how many she's already run this year alone!), loves nail polish, and is a great friend through blogging. She is going to talk about being an adult!

i actually remember being in college and thinking i couldn't wait to get out of there and be a grown up. i was so ready to get out of school and get on with life. even my blog name goes along with that idea. being a grown up has its advantages, but now that i've been a grown up for a while now, i realize it's not all it's cracked up to be. being a grown up means
paying your own bills; making your own lunch; figuring out retirement, insurance, and investments; getting the oil changed in your car, and grocery shopping
it also means
setting your own bedtime, coming home whenever you want, eating chips and salsa for dinner, buying new shoes because you want to, and cleaning your room when you feel like it.
being a grown up also means
getting a real job, buying a house, and starting a family.
sure it comes with more responsibility, but it also comes with more freedom. i guess being a grown up isn't so bad.
what's your favorite or least favorite thing about being a grown up?
