1) Religion Bashing
I am a Mormon. I know there are a lot of misunderstanding and misconceptions about the religion. However, I believe whole-heartedly in it. A lot of people bash my religion and post such hateful and hurtful things about it online. It churns my stomach, almost to the point of throwing up! How could people, who claim to be Christian, and follow Christ's example, say such things.
2) When a student's parent is "Concerned" or "Upset" or even, just blatantly mad
I'm not a controversial person (as evidenced by this post!). I also care so much about my students, even when they misbehave and are punished. However, when a parent is upset at me, I get really nervous! I worry about what their reaction will be, I worry about what they'll say to the administration (even though my admin are the strongest supporters I could ever ask for). Thankfully, this happens once in every two blue moons!
3) Political and Social Controversy
Any fanatics, or one-sided accusations with anything political or social, like health care, illegal immigrants, abortion, same-sex marriage, gun control, etc., really makes me uncomfortable. I have my views, but I don't try to push my ideas on others. The thing is, I'm pretty moderate. I tend to say that I am conservative, but leaning over the fence into liberalism, and Justin says I'm the opposite. So, people who are further into the left or into the right, sometimes makes me a little uncomfortable...and sometimes a little upset about how blinded they are.
4) Math, Insurance, Bills
Math scares me. I blame being placed into advances classes in 6th grade and then never 100% understanding math concepts for the rest of my life. It goes over my head. My mom and Justin claim that I runaway from math and insurance/bills. It brings me to tears sometimes. However, there were two separate bills from Rhys's birth that had trouble contacting my insurance and actually accepting my payments. It made me furious until it was eventually resolved.
5) Ignorant People
Now, going a long with #3 and #4 (myself included in #4), I really, strongly dislike ignorant people. Here is one example about a parent who didn't want my student to watch Gone With the Wind! People who won't listen to the other viewpoint. People who blindly follow the bandwagon. People who claim fact from the internet. People who don't have all the facts. Sigh. It really bothers me. It even applies to smaller, younger people. The hardest thing to comprehend for me is students who just don't care about or want to learn. Why?
6) Anti-Immunization People
Going a long with #5 is this whole issue of the measles breakouts. People who claim that immunizations inject harmful substances into our body. FACT: We eat unhealthy things--tuna has mercury, poppy seeds contain opium, table salt is half chlorine! People who claim that "all-natural" is the healthiest. FACT: The mortality rate today is the lowest in history, thanks to modern medicine. People who say they don't want to hurt their children. FACT: They will hurt more and longer when they are sick and have diseases. But, the one claim that boils my blood the most is the people that claim immunizations cause autism. FACT: NO IT DOES NOT! Seriously! How ignorant! I'm a teacher and have had autistic students. I have taken classes and trainings for special education. Autism is a wide spectrum of many different things. This "fact" is based on ONE study. To be a real fact, it needs to be backed up from many different findings! Also, it was disproved and found to be mostly a fraud! The author was deprived of his medical practicing license! It drives me crazy! The previous reasons, I can live with, shaking my head and wondering about those poor ignorant people, but to honestly believe immunizations cause autism?!? Smallpox has been eliminated from immunizations. Even George Washington inoculated his army with smallpox during the Revolutionary War to prevent them from the current outbreak in the late 1770s! Again, as a teacher, outbreaks of anything, especially the flu, are detrimental! Try having a total of 19 students, and 6 are out the beginning of December because of the flu! How hard is it to teach! Now, imagine that on a much wider scale with more and bigger classrooms for a longer period of time because of the measles outbreak! Do we want measles in the world? No! Help eliminate diseases. Protect your children. Get them (and yourself) immunized!
End of Rant.

What makes your blood boil or stomach churn?

Yes to all of these!!.....numbers 3 and 5 especially. I used to make the mistake of reading the comments section on articles about the military or homecoming youtube videos and just reading through one or two would ruin my day--the things that people will say out of ignorance is beyond my comprehension.
ReplyDeleteI soooo agree with you on religion bashing. I mean, if you know and you're confident that you're right I don't see any reason why you need to bash other people. We're all entitled to our own opinion. If you believe something and it works for you well good. Just don't force it down another person's throat, right? I think the more you show how a hater you are towards another the more you will repel them. That's why in all the bashing in the social media I only have one post to share: Pray for those who persecute you. That's it.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, it's all about respect. And how you treat another person defines who you are, not your religion.
Well, there you go. I ranted away too. Haha.
I hope you'll have a more positive and stress free week ahead. Thanks for sharing your views. :)
Thanks! This whole breakout in Disneyland, then the neighboring county to me is having a break out! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteThat definitely churns my stomach, too! I may not agree why the military is deployed, but it's not their choice. They're just doing their job and trying to protect/support their country.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about the Peony Project of bloggers: they're all Christian women of all different religions. They only care about uplifting and encouraging others.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on a lot of these. I don't understand the religion bashing. So we all have different beliefs about things. Let's talk about it and learn from each other, rather than tearing each other down.
ReplyDeleteSame with politics.
Exactly. There is such thing as a civil disagreement.
ReplyDelete(That's kind of the same with me)
