Baby Rhys
Can I say how thankful I am that Bonnie's baby girl is a week and half or so younger than Rhys? Bonnie is not afraid to ask worrying questions and does so in a way without seeming pitiful (I'd be afraid of that). I read all the comments on her baby question posts because Rhys seems to have the same problems as baby June! Thanks, Bonnie!
I've heard that the 3-4 month time is known as the "Golden Age" of babies--happy, social, learning so many skills, but not really mobile yet. However, I've discovered, it's also the hardest time when it comes to feeding and sleeping (again, thank you Bonnie's blog!). My milk supply has dropped, and yes, I've been doing things to help it get back up, but Rhys's appetite is bigger than my supply. So, we've started doing day-time nursing, with a supplement formula bottle if he's still hungry, and a formula bottle for his bed-time meal, then nursing in the middle of the night.
But, sleeping is getting harder for him. He doesn't seem to want to nap, and especially not in his crib! Half the time I can get him to sleep at least 30-45 minutes in my bed after laying down with him and singing him to sleep. We are trying to change his bedtime routine from 10 to 7. Most of the time, he stays asleep and I'll go in and dream feed him at 10:30 before I go to bed. But, not always. And about half the time, he'll sleep soundly until 3ish and I'll get up and feed him, then he'll be back down till 6-7ish. But, not always. Those nights he doesn't are hard on both Justin and I. We both desperately need sleep to be able to function well. Based off all the reading I've been doing about sleeping and all the comments on Bonnie's post about her baby's sleeping issues (pretty much the same as mine), I've decided to do the 5-minute CIO...we'll see how that goes the next few days. Wish Justin, Rhys, and me luck!
Medieval History
Yesterday, I caught about half an hour of Braveheart on AMC before I realized they keep all the R-rated stuff in it. But, I got real interested in the timeline this time. So I pulled out my medieval history books and started reading up stuff about the lineage of the English throne, rebellions of the Welsh and Scottish. It made me miss researching and learning about medieval history! It was one of my favorite things to do while I was in college! I actually loved doing my reading homework and my 15-20 page research papers.
Christmas
Yes, I'm already thinking about Christmas. I'm going up to my mom's on Friday to make stockings to Justin, Rhys, and I. I'm also thinking about what to get for Christmas. There are two big purchases Justin and I want: one for me and one for him. We are considering buying them on Black Friday and having that and that only be our Christmas gift. And then there's Rhys. He'll be 5.5 months old during Christmas. Do they understand? Can they unwrap presents? How much to get him? What to get him?
Now to run errands and clean the house before I have to go teach!

ReplyDeleteI love Medieval history! So fascinating!
ReplyDeleteAnd I bought my first Christmas present in April, so it's never too early!
Wishing you all the luck with CIO. Sleep patterns are tricky! I know the three of you will do great.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy we're already talking Christmas! For Marcus' first Christmas he was 9 months, and we got him just a few things. He wasn't really into unwrapping the gifts, nor did he have a clue what was going on. That's not to say the grandparents didn't go all out, though. :)
It was my emphasis for my history education major. And, eventually, I want to be a history professor!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We're not doing a true CIO yet because I think he's too young, but we got to start somewhere and stop getting up at every wince.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Rhys's grandparents will go all out, too, especially since he is the first grandbaby on my side =)
