My Worst Day of Driving Ever.

Don't forget about the Designed by Chloe giveaway. There are 8 hand-made fabric headbands waiting to be won!

I used to pride myself on being the only in my family (and between me and Justin) with a completely clean driving record--no citations or tickets, no wrecks or crashes.

And then, last Tuesday happened.

Justin claims I have a lead foot. And, I agree with him to a degree. I tend to go about 10mph over the speed limit. On the interstate, I tend to stay at 80mph. People who go slow annoy me.

Well, this year, since we live significantly closer to my Charter School, I only have to take a main road, not a highway or the interstate.

I was heading down 78th South, following the long caravan of cars, going the speed they were going, which was probably about 50mph (to be honest, I wasn't paying attention--I was singing to the song on the radio and looking forward to my first day of teaching again). The speed limit was 40mph, so I didn't feel bad. I saw a motorcycle cop on the side of the road typing something into his computer. Next thing I now, his lights are flashing behind me.

I pull over and then realize I left my wallet with my license at home! But, thankfully, I had my insurance info, which, when the police officer input into his laptop, pulled up my license information. But, I was embarrassed that I was unprepared. He asked if I knew how fast I was going. Honestly, I didn't think I was going that much faster than the speed limit. Apparently, I was going 52mph in a 35mph.

35?!?! I had never seen that sign! I only knew where there were two 40mph signs! But, I apologized and he could see that it was my first infraction, so he dropped it to only 9 over the limit. I thanked him and went on my way to school.

I had the attitude, "There's a first time for everything, I guess." But, I was a little distraught that my clean record was now tarnished.

When I got home, I tried to park my car next to Justin's in our carport. It would be a tight fit, with much maneuvering, but Justin had been able to do it, so I was positive I could too. Slowly, I inched forward. Slowly, turned a little to the left. Slowly, I backed up to the right. Then, screech! I hit the pole! So, I turned the wheel drastically to try to straighten myself, and squeak! I was stuck--curved and trapped by the door handle!

Head down, sheepish, and apologetic, I went in the house and explained the situation to Justin and asked for his help. He was very patient with me and said all he cared was that I was ok. But, I felt terrible about scratching our newer car.

It was the worst luck I had driving that day. And, I'm still upset that I don't have a pure record anymore. Oh well.

  1. Oh man, yeah, that is the suckiest of driving days. Getting pulled over by a cop is so terrifying to me. I am an overly cautious driver (never break the speed limit) but I got a ticket a couple years ago for turning left at an intersection where it had been legal to turn left my entire life until that week. Now I cringe whenever passing a cop car on the side of the road.

  2. Well, I knew he'd be nice because once he would put in my license info, he'd see that I was a good driver.
