This is my first "photo shoot" with my new tripod! I also "edited" these photos through Picmonkey. I think I did a pretty good job!
This past week was really busy. I had a lot of grading and planning to do since midterms were on Friday. I also came home to headaches and exhaustion, thanks to Baby Rhys. Justin had college midterms this week, after coming back to school from a week of illness. Needless to say, our apartment was a mess. All the dishes were undone. There was plenty of food in the fridge, but neither of us really wanted to muster up the energy to cook a real meal.
So, although we try to set a budget, and try to stay away from fast food, this week was terrible!
Monday: lunch was J-Dawgs with my little brother who was visiting. dinner was Chick-fil-A after driving him home.
Tuesday: I actually cooked some salmon for us.
Wednesday: Justin had to work, so he packed a frozen dinner and I microwaved some taquitos.
Thursday: dinner was Carl's Junior
Friday: dinner was a "buy-one-get-one-free" Pizza Pie Cafe
Saturday: lunch was Awful Waffle after finishing laundry.
We are terrible. We suck at setting a food budget and following it.
How do you and your significant other set food budgets and stick to them? How do you stay away from eating out?

You did a great job with the tripod with the photo's, they look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I really appreciate that! I looked at your blog and saw you have awesome pictures, so thanks!
DeleteI'm about to do a whole post on how I meal plan. We're not perfect about not eating out, but we're getting better. Having kids helps, because its harder to go out. And having quick easy options helps so you don't feel like your options are take out or cooking for two hours.
ReplyDeleteWe meal plan, but that plan gets set aside because I don't feel like cooking. But, that's good news that having kids is a deterrent from eating out!
DeleteI would like to add that sometimes when you're pregnant, eating out is entirely alright. Sometimes you're too tired to cook, or you don't have the food that your body actually needs right then, or you have a craving that needs to be met. Don't be too hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe best we to stick to budget on food (for us, at least) is to make out a menu, make a shopping list, and then stick to that list when you go shopping. It's a good idea to look at the local grocery store ads when you're making a menu because then you can plan meals around what's on sale that week.
We do that, too, and love Wal-Mart for price-matching.
DeleteHey, sometimes eating out is what works the best! When we first got married, I was in school all day and Angel worked all night, so we ate out a lot because the best time for us to actually see each other was for Angel to drive over to my school to eat dinner with me before he went in to work for the night!
ReplyDeleteBut in our current season of life we cook more and eat out less. I don't really meal plan but I usually plan what to make for dinner as soon as I get up in the morning--usually moving frozen meat to the fridge to thaw at that time. I find that really helpful because if I'm already planning on making a certain meal from the morning onwards, I usually start craving that meal, plus the initial preparations have already begun, and if the meat is thawed, I'm locked into cooking or else the meat will go to waste. That's my best strategy because if I don't think about dinner till dinner time I'm tempted to just get lazy!
It's good to know that while being pregnant and having a husband in school allows this to be normal
DeleteHave you ever heard of Mint.com? It's a secure budgeting site. We use it and think it's AWESOME. You can set budgets for different categories (Groceries, eating out, gas etc.) It's been a great visual for us. We can check it often to see where we're at and it sends you notifications (if you want) to let you know if you're getting close to reaching your budget. It really helped us to see where most our money was going. Also, if you pay with your card it automatically keeps track of where you used it. Example: You spent $40 at Chevron it'll take $40 out of your gas budget. Anyways, it's pretty cool and you should try it! We heard about it through Emmett's finance professor.
ReplyDeleteWe actually tried it, like Justin said in his comment, but for some reason, it doesn't like to connect with my bank--USAA (the military bank)
DeleteWe've tried it before, but we've had difficulty with it managing multiple bank accounts. We'll have to look into it again once we combine ours.
