We were going to have our C4. Chicken Corn Chowder Casserole. It is one of Justin's favorites!
I had Visiting Teachers over, so I asked Justin to cook some rice. When my visiting teachers were done, I was going to cook chicken and put our casserole in the oven.
When I went to the rice cooker, there was only about 1/2 cup of rice cooked...definitely not enough for a casserole. I forlornly looked at Justin and told him he didn't make enough rice. With a sad puppy-dog face, he asked, "how much?" I showed him, and his face fell again. He loves our C4. I also explained to him that is why I measure out a cup of rice, to ensure I have enough. Justin doesn't believe in measuring.
I was hungry, and I knew he was, too. It would take another 15 minutes to cook more rice and then another 20 for the casserole to cook, so I told him we would just have the soup over rice. Forlorn face quietly whispered, "Ok."
I put more rice in, turned on the rice cooker, and cooked the chicken strips. Then, I poured a can of chicken corn chowder soup and a cup of veggies into the pan with the chicken. I topped it with salt, pepper, creole seasoning, and some shredded cheese.
When the rice was done, I scooped it into bowls and poured the soup on it. Justin snarfed it down--see, I knew he was hungry.
He looked at me after finishing and said with his puppy-dog eyes, "I like the casserole better."
I asked, "Well, what lesson did we learn?"
"To cook more rice?"
"How much more?"
"Enough?"
"How much more?"
"........a cup....."
I smiled. I think he'll remember that next time. =)
By the way, sorry about no post yesterday for the March Daily Slice of Life challenge...I'm getting pretty stressed about a couple things right now, and yesterday wasn't that great of a day, so I just didn't worry about it.

Tanney, I'm sorry that you're pretty stressed about things. You're right to remember the most important things first. And did I ever tell you about the time that Andrew was helping me to make Hawaiian Haystacks? It was his job to get the rice started while I prepped for the rest. Everything was finished, and we were ready eat, our guest was over, and we went to get the rice- which hadn't cooked. Andrew had forgotten to push the button from Warm to Cook. Whoops. :) Twinsies!
ReplyDeleteOh, Tashya. That is funny. Poor Andy!
DeleteOh my gosh, this post cracked me up. Why do husbands never follow perfectly clear directions? :)
ReplyDeleteYou still got to love them!
DeleteHope everything is okay! Husbands are HORRIBLE about following directions. I think it's true for all of them. Gotta love 'em anyway!
ReplyDeleteHe loves Chicken Corn Chowder too much, so he was ok with it. =)
