Rain to the Rescue

The past couple of days, well, the past two weeks or so, Utah has had numerous wildfires. None in Provo, thank goodness, but still pretty close.

The county south of us had a pretty bad fire. Two small towns away in Alpine (20 min from me) had a pretty bad fire. I was really scared with that one: close family friends live in Alpine, and we will be holding our reception at their house.  From their front yard, they could even see the flames of the fire--only a handful of miles closer to the mountains than they were. Thankfully, they said that the wind was blowing the fire up the mountain rather than down. Thank you Heavenly Father for protecting them (and also the venue of my reception!).

Utah's government was very nervous with the 4th of July and numerous restrictions came up with fire-arms and personal fireworks. But, as far as I know, Independence Day went off without a hitch--especially Stadium of Fire's fireworks.

Today, I woke up to a smell I hadn't had the pleasure of for about 2 months. I looked out the window, and it was still kind of dark, but a different shadow than lack of daylight. Gray, no--silver! clouds created a heavy canopy over the Utah Valley. The smell was impending rain.

As I was standing outside, staring at the sky, daring, wishing, begging it to rain, I felt a drop on my head. More drops splattered across the ground. It finally rained.

I am sitting here in my apartment, next to the window, watching the rain replenish Utah and inhaling all of the sweet goodness that the scent of rain has to offer me.

Heavenly Father definitely knew that families and the land needed rescuing. It is a small miracle to me, but I am sure it is a HUGE miracle to others.

And, I just love the rain.
